The fourth house is where a person comes from. Home, land, vehicles, the mother, inner ease and early schooling all sit here. Its natural karaka is the Moon; in the natural zodiac it corresponds to Cancer, which the Moon also rules.
It is a kendra. The first, fourth, seventh and tenth are the four angles, the pillars of the chart, and grahas placed in them get more room to express. The fourth sits opposite the tenth, the house of visible action, and is read as the unseen base rather than the public face.
Being an angle brings a technicality with it: the kendradhipati blemish.
