11th House (Bhava) · Gains, Prosperity · Vedic Astrology · Astrovene

The eleventh house is about what arrives. Gains, income, wishes coming to completion, friends, groups and older siblings are read here. Its natural karaka is Jupiter, and in the natural zodiac it corresponds to Aquarius, ruled by Saturn.

It is one of the four upachaya houses, with the third, sixth and tenth. These are the houses of increase, read as building with applied effort over time, so what they look like early is not treated as what they amount to.

It is also in the trishadaya group, with the third and sixth, under which some schools count the eleventh lord a functional malefic. Others hold the lordship neutral and judge the graha by placement and association instead. Either way it is a claim about the lord and not a verdict on the house, which continues to signify gain.

The eleventh is read alongside the second rather than on its own. If the second is holding, the eleventh is receiving, and the tradition treats a picture of resources drawn from only one of them as incomplete.

Friends and groups sit here for a reason that follows from the house's own logic. What the eleventh describes is what comes through a network rather than through solitary effort, which is why gain and association are grouped in a single bhava instead of being split across two.

Where the eleventh lord sits describes the route by which things arrive: through the profession from the tenth, through study and distance from the ninth, through effort and contact from the third. It says nothing about quantity. Wishes fulfilled are traced from the same lord as income, so this is not a house whose gains can be separated out and read on their own.
