Venus is the karaka of pleasure and partnership. The spouse, vehicles and comfort are the significations given to it, and it is the natural karaka of the seventh bhava, the house of marriage and of the other party to any agreement.
Venus holds twenty of the hundred and twenty Vimshottari years, the largest span any graha carries, where the Sun's six is the smallest. A Venus mahadasha therefore runs more than three times a Sun one, which is arithmetic, not a judgement about either. In the dasha order it comes second, immediately after Ketu.
It lords Taurus and Libra, with the first fifteen degrees of Libra as its moolatrikona. It exalts in Pisces, deepest at the twenty-seventh degree, and falls in Virgo. Its directional strength is greatest in the fourth house. Its combustion orb changes when it is retrograde, an arrangement it shares only with Mercury.
Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha are its nakshatras. Each sits wholly inside its sign, second in order, crossing no boundary, and the three signs are the fire trine: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Venus is thus seated entirely in fire signs, the counterpart of the Moon seated entirely in earth ones.
Mercury and Saturn are its natural friends, the Sun and Moon its enemies, Mars and Jupiter neutral. With Jupiter it is one of the two grahas classed benefic unconditionally. It casts the seventh drishti and nothing further.
For the Capricorn and Aquarius lagnas Venus becomes a yogakaraka, lording a kendra and a trikona together; of the twelve lagnas only those two. The fields associated with it are those concerned with form and pleasure: the arts, entertainment, design, and goods made to be desirable rather than useful.
