Jupiter is the karaka of wisdom. Children, wisdom and wealth are the significations the tradition assigns it, and of the classical grahas it is the one asked to carry the most.
Four of the twelve bhavas take Jupiter as their natural karaka: the second, the fifth, the ninth and the eleventh, which are family and resources, children, dharma and fortune, and gain. No other graha carries more than two, and the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Venus carry one each. That concentration is why Jupiter appears in readings that look unrelated on their face.
It lords Sagittarius and Pisces, with the first ten degrees of Sagittarius as its moolatrikona. It exalts in Cancer, deepest at the fifth degree, in the house of its friend the Moon, and falls in Capricorn. Its directional strength is read as greatest in the first house.
Beyond the seventh drishti every graha casts, Jupiter aspects the fifth and the ninth in full. Those are the two trikona houses, and it is the only graha whose special aspects fall on both.
Punarvasu, Vishakha and Purva Bhadrapada answer to Jupiter. Each crosses a sign boundary, opening in an air sign and closing in a water one. Sixteen of the hundred and twenty Vimshottari years are its own, and in the dasha order it follows Rahu and precedes Saturn.
The Sun, Moon and Mars are its natural friends, Mercury and Venus its enemies, Saturn neutral. With Venus it is one of the two grahas classed benefic without condition, where the Moon's class and Mercury's depend on circumstance. Teaching, law, finance and advisory work are the domains associated with it, and in a woman's chart the tradition moves it to the husband-karaka role.
